Unofficial results from the November 5, 2019 are available on the Floyd County Auditor's web page and Facebook page. There are still outstanding absentee ballots that are postmarked November 4 that could be received by noon on Tuesday, November 12 as well as provisional ballots that were cast at the polling place on Election Day that could be counted.
Floyd County's first-tier canvass of the election will be held on Tuesday, November 12 at 3 p.m. in the Board of Supervisor's Boardroom at the courthouse. Official election results for the cities of Charles City, Colwell, Floyd, Marble Rock, Nora Springs, Rockford, and Rudd and the hospital public measure will be canvassed at that time. This canvass will also include Floyd County's first-tier results for all community school districts (Charles City, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Central Springs, Nashua-Plainfield, and Osage) and community colleges (NIACC and Hawkeye).
Because school boundaries cross county lines, "control" counties, typically the county with the school district's largest population, are assigned for each school districts. Floyd County is the control county for Charles City and Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School Districts. The control county would set up and manage the school district's election and oftentimes voters residing in the non-control county would drive to a polling place in the neighboring county to vote in a school election. Due to recent legislative changes, voters now will always vote in the county where they reside for school elections and each county will do a first-tier canvass of the results in their count and then send those results to the control county. Each control county now holds a second canvass to combine their results with the results received from non-control counties. Floyd County's school/college results will be sent to the respective control counties and, likewise, other non-control counties will send their results to Floyd County.
Floyd County's second-tier canvass will be held on Monday, November 18 at 10 a.m. in the Board of Supervisor's Boardroom at the courthouse. Official results for the Charles City Community School District and Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School District will be canvassed at that time. Official results will be posted on the Floyd County Auditor's web page and on Facebook following canvasses.
